It is really more about technique than strength so do.
Putting kayak on roof of car.
Leave the straps loose at this point as you may need to adjust this kayak after the second one is placed.
Place the first kayak on the roof rack.
Thread the straps through the front and back carry handles or toggles and secure each one to a tie down spot underneath your car either with a carabiner or a hook.

Throw the straps over the kayak and secure the straps.

You may need to try it in different positions to find the best way for your kayak to sit on the car.
You should always tie down the bow and stern of your kayak especially if you are going to transport your kayak without a roof rack.
Then it locks securely in place on top of the car.
