Let the rest of the tarp hang off the lower border of the roof that overhangs the wall known as the eave. Wrap the tarp three or four times around the wood then secure the wood to the soffit or the roof deck on the side of the peak opposite the side that is leaking. Attach the 1x2s through the tarp and into the roof decking with eight penny nails about every 16 inches. The 2 by 4 should be about 2 feet longer than the tarp width.

A tarp can save you from a leaky roof situation in more ways than one and the process becomes much easier if you can do away with nails. Partially unroll your tarp to cover the damaged area from the roof s eaves to peak. Pull the other end of the tarp over the peak and down the roof far enough to cover the leak then secure that end to another 2 by 4. Lay more 2 by 4s on either side of the tarp and attach those as well for a tight well secured water barrier.

Positions several 1 2 pieces of lumber on the tarp running vertically down the slope of the roof. If you don t have a helper use the metal rings to hold down the tarp at the furthest four corners. Tarp https low es 2ha1kmn cr. Grab one corner of the tarp and have a helper grab the other end. Try to pick a day that is not windy or else you may face frustration because as soon as you open the tarp up there it will start blowing all over the place. Lay the tarp out flat over the roof.

Never lay the tarp out during a storm. Unfold the tarp on the roof. Lay the tarp flatly over the damaged area and make sure there are at least 4 feet of it overhanging past the roof s peak and the rest over the eave. There should be an additional 4 feet of tarp on every side.

Then fold the excess tarp under a few rotations for a tight clean fit. If you have a helper this part is easy. Extend the top edge of the tarp over the ridge of the roof. Create an anchor board by rolling the tarp s peak end with a 2 x 4 inch board and nailing the tarp to your board with your 3 inch nails.

While tarping a roof with nailshas its advantages the process can be a little unwieldy for those who are inexperienced with roofing jobs.
